Skiathos
The Skiathos coastline hides over fifty beaches, almost all sandy. Those along the southern coast are linked with the town by a frequent bus service. Skiathos town is very attractive. A jumble of red-roofed houses and climbing stone-paved streets cover the rocky arms of the small harbour. During the day the town can appear rather sleepy but, in the evenings, the waterfront hums with life and a daunting array of restaurants. Nightlife could mean a quiet café, a lively bar or an up-to-the minute music club.

Skopelos
Skopelos is a beautifully green, wooded island. The road runs the length of the island, giving easy access to the best sheltered beaches and coves. Skopelos Town is one of the most characterful island ports in Greece. Strict building and preservation orders have kept it colourful, clean and neat, with narrow, climbing streets and countless tiny chapels. Mulberry trees line the waterfront and shade numerous cafés and restaurants. Skopelos Town also has some good quality shops selling local crafts.

Alonissos
Alonissos is a green retreat in which to swim, walk and gently explore. Around its shores are many coves and beaches, lapped by the clearest of seas and backed by green hills. Patitiri, although generally sleepy, has plenty of waterfront activity. It has its own narrow white-pebble beach and some excellent tavernas and cafés strung above the sea. Old Alonissos, high above Patitiri, has the best views. It is very picturesque and holds particular appeal for artists, writers and walkers. The seas and coastline around Alonissos
have been designated a national marine Park, created up to protect the
indigenous Monk Seal and can be visited on organised boat trips.

Patmos
The attractive port of Skala is the best place to stay in Patmos. It is a bustling and quite sophisticated little place, with elegant arcaded cafés, fine tavernas and some smart shops hidden in the narrow backstreets. High on the hill above Skala is the Monastery of St John, the white houses of Hora clustered below. Hora is quite beautiful, with its old mansions and flower-filled courtyards and has some good restaurants. The views from the square over Patmos and the Aegean are stunning.

Symi
Symi has a marvellously atmospheric port lined with neo-classical houses, and an away-from-it-all very friendly air. Symi Town has two parts – Chorio above and Yialos below. Each has its own atmosphere, shops and tavernas and the two are linked by a wide street (and nearly 400 steps) known as Kali Strata. Symi is quite mountainous and not as barren as may first appear. Some good walking opportunities exist to small bays or to the interior, which hides many chapels as well as a monastery or two.

Rhodes
It is little wonder that Rhodes receives so many visitors. Today, most come for one of the best sunshine records in the Mediterranean and a string of sandy beaches. But, in the past, Rhodes' strategic importance was the main attraction and hence the history of the island is one of the most kaleidoscopic you could find.
Rhodes Old Town is one of the best preserved medieval cities you could hope to see.

Santorini
Santorini is one of the most famous islands in the world. This does mean that the island is commercial – every cruise-ship in the Aegean seems to call in at some stage. But, this does not detract from the sheer spectacle of the place - volcanic cliffs laced with white villages overlooking the caldera and islands below. Santorini is an island that should be visited at least once – it is unique and the views are spectacularly unforgettable.

Naxos
Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades. It is also now one of the most popular, due largely to much-improved flight and ferry links in recent years. But, away from the main town and handful of burgeoning resorts, Naxos has largely preserved its slower, more Greek pace of life. It offers abundant sandy beaches and a fertile interior still dedicated to farming. Naxos Town is particularly attractive, with its extensive waterfront bedecked with tavernas and small shops. Behind, a maze of narrow streets lead to the Venetian Kastro and the island’s archaeological museum.

Paros
Paros, a short hop to the west of Naxos, is smaller and less dramatic, but does get busy in season. The beaches are excellent and it is probably the best island of all from which to do a little island hopping, as every ferry in the Aegean seems to dock here at one time or another! Exploration of Paros is easy. A gentle landscape hides windmills and sparkling white villages. The resort of Naoussa in the north still retains some of its fishing village atmosphere around the harbour area.
